Install WooCommerce
Though there are other e-commerce plugins available for WordPress sites, these directions will show you how to use WooCommerce. It has worked well for e-commerce sites we have set up for other farmers, and focusing on one plugin will simplify the instructions. Here are the steps to install WooCommerce:
- Go to your WordPress admin panel. It will be your website name, followed by /wp-admin. For example, here is the WP admin panel URL for our demo site: http://market.fischer-clarkson.com/wp-admin
- In the left-hand navigation panel, click on Plugins->Add New.
- Type “woocommerce” in the Search Plugin field near the top right of the screen and hit Enter.
- Find WooCommerce from Woo Themes in the search results. It should be at or near the top of the list.
- Click the Install Now button.
- A screen will appear indicating the plugin was installed successfully. Click the Activate Plugin link.
- After WooCommerce is activated, the WooCommerce setup wizard will be displayed. Click the Let’s Go button.
- Click the Continue button on the Page Setup page to create the default WooCommerce pages.
- Enter the appropriate information on the Store Locale Setup Page and click the Continue button.
- Leave the checkboxes blank on the Shipping & Tax page and click the Continue button.
- If you want to use PayPal to accept online payments and you have already set up your PayPal account, enter the email address you used for your PayPal account in the PayPal Email Address field. Leave the other fields blank; they can be set up later. Click Continue.
- If you are willing to have WooCommerce collect non-sensitive information from your website for improvement purposes, click the Allow button. Otherwise, simply click the Return to the WordPress Dashboard link at the bottom of the page.
- You are done with this step and ready to move to the next one!
